Bursaries

Godstowe is able to offer Means-Tested Bursaries to girls who may otherwise be unable to attend the school due to financial constraints. Godstowe girls are extremely successful in many areas of achievement and the Governors are keen to encourage girls to take advantage of both the school’s many specialities and its outstanding record of producing Confident, Happy and Successful young women in a stable and nurturing environment.

Bursaries are only offered to girls attending the Preparatory School (Years 3 to 8) however parents with children at any primary school may apply for a bursary during the preceding academic year in anticipation of entry into the Main Preparatory School.

The Bursary

A bursary may be awarded to a girl in recognition of her potential in Art, Music, PE, academic activities or for pastoral reasons and may be awarded after assessment interview and reference from her current school. The number of Bursaries will be limited and not all applicants will be offered a Bursary.

The bursary scheme is open to any girl at any stage in her preparatory education up to the age of 12 years old.

All Bursaries will be means-tested with the value being related to the family circumstances. In some cases, pastoral considerations may be taken into account when awarding Bursaries for boarding places.

A Bursary will normally be expressed as a percentage of the fees up to a maximum of 100%. In exceptional circumstances, further help may be available for uniform and school extras.

All Bursaries will be strictly confidential, and details of individual bursaries will not be published.

Bursaries will be subject to annual means testing and may be varied up or down at the discretion of the Governors.

The Bursary will be based on the financial circumstances of the family having regard to all pertinent considerations. (As a guide, it is unlikely that a Bursary will be awarded to a family with gross income in excess of £60,000pa and a bursary of 100% is unlikely unless the family gross income is less than £30,000pa.)

The Bursary will normally be given for as long as the girl remains at Godstowe subject to an annual review.

The Bursary may be withdrawn if, in the Headmistress’s consideration, the girl’s work or conduct is unsatisfactory or if any fees or extras remain unpaid at the start of term.

How to Apply

Bursary applications, together with all the supporting documentation, must be received by the Bursar six months prior to the start of the term is due to commence for new pupils and three months prior for existing pupils. In normal course, the assessment of eligibility will entail a home visit by the Bursar to discuss the parental circumstances.

Offers of Bursaries, including the amount of the awards, will be notified to parents by letter once the Governors have considered the application. Parents must accept or decline an offer and any acceptance must be for all the terms and conditions of the award.

The necessary documentation for these awards may be obtained from the Bursar's Office:
