Godstowe secures fifth place in Maths Challenge
Godstowe finished fifth in the UKMT Team Maths Challenge Regional Finals at Horris Hill School in Newbury, Berkshire on Friday 20th March. Four Year 8 girls took part in the competition, which featured 29 different schools - most of which were senior schools.
Teams were made up of Year 8 and Year 9 pupils and, as Godstowe was only able to field Year 8 pupils - Scarlett Irons, Afua Adomakoh, Lingsi Tse and Scarlett You - they did exceptionally well to finish in fifth place. The overall winners were Reading School, followed by St Helen & St Katherine and Radley.
The competition consisted of four rounds. In the first round the girls were faced with 10 challenging questions, followed by a round of crossnumber - similar to crossword. While two member of the team worked on "across", the other two solved the "down" questions - communication and teamwork were key in this round. The final two rounds were a pairs relay and a shuttle.
This was an outstanding result from the girls and Godstowe is very proud of their achievement.
