Godstowe swimmers crowned National Champions

Sport Fixtures

Godstowe’s U11 swimming team won the Freestyle Relay at the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) National Swimming Finals on Saturday 7th May, crowning them National Champions.

The team comprising Alice Crowston, Ellie Martin, Alice Butler and Jasmine van Rest knocked three seconds of their qualifying time at the event held at K2 Crawley in Surrey. The team also knocked five seconds off their Medley Relay time placing them sixth in the country in that race.

In addition to the team competition, four Godstowe girls also qualified in their individual events at the IAPS Regionals held in January. At the Nationals, Alice Moffat finished sixth in the U13 Freestyle, Ellie Martin finished seventh in the U11 Breaststroke, Alice Crowston finished eighth in the U11 Backcrawl and Jasmine van Rest finished ninth in the U11 Freestyle.

More than 4,000 swimmers from 400 schools entered 30 qualifying round galas in February, with more than 2,400 swimmers from 388 schools qualifying for the finals. This was an exceptionally large event and the competition was of very high standard. Godstowe is extremely proud of the results our girls achieved.
