School Ethos

At Godstowe our shared purpose is to enable children to fulfil their potential. We encourage them in independent thought, curiosity and a love of learning, which help them grow in self worth and confidence within a caring, safe and supportive environment.

We believe that all children should experience the same opportunities and that they have an entitlement to a broad education that equips them with skills for life. We believe that praise is important and that every child should feel valued. We aim to impart the shared values of respect for others and our environment, personal responsibility, tolerance and understanding of right and wrong, so that our pupils may become valued members of the community in which they live.

Today, Godstowe is a successful and flourishing boarding and day school with over 300 pupils aged three to 13 and enjoys an excellent and unparalleled academic reputation among British Schools.

The School has a Nursery and Pre-Prep department for boys and girls from three to seven years. The Preparatory School from seven to 13 years caters for girls only.

Boarding life is focused within three Houses, each of 25 to 36 girls, where the atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and fun-filled with busy weekends.

The staff are highly professional and very caring; the level of individual care, the quality of life, and happiness of our children, are hallmarks of our community.

The average class size is just 16 with two-form entry in the Pre-Prep department and two to three forms within each year group from eight to 13+. We have an even balance between day and boarding places in the Main School.
