Introduction

Since its foundation in 1900 by Dame Frances Dove, Godstowe has been at the forefront of girls' education. With a distinguished tradition as the first British boarding preparatory school for girls, in a foundation that includes Wycombe Abbey, Benenden and St Leonards, Godstowe has continued to thrive and embrace the challenge of preparing our children for the future.

Built upon strong traditions and a sound Christian ethos, we provide a framework for every child to feel valued and gain confidence. Children are encouraged to pursue their individual talents and to grow fully as individuals, prepared for the demands of an ever-changing world.

We aim to foster within our children the values of courtesy, sensitivity and responsibility. We set out to engender enthusiasm, a genuine love of learning, good work habits and, most importantly, a sense of achievement. In order to achieve these aims, we seek to provide highly skilled and professional pastoral and academic staff, with the best facilities and equipment for learning and leisure within a stimulating, stable and secure environment. Our specialist facilities for sport, music, technology and the arts are splendid, with new laboratories and libraries. Godstowe prepares girls for our country's top senior schools, and has an unrivalled success rate at scholarship level.

Our pupils themselves convey the School's ethos more than any website ever will. After reading this summary of some of the main aspects of our School life, I hope that you will visit us to experience for yourself the friendly family atmosphere and sense of purposeful activity, which characterise the School. Godstowe is very special to all who learn, live and work here. We would be delighted to welcome you and show you our School.

“The girls in capes uphold the school’s unparalleled academic reputation with ease.” Tatler’s Schools Guide 2008
