School Council

Andy Kemp, Chairman

Andy Kemp, 46, joined the School Council in February 2006 and has since taken up the role of chairman. He has two daughters at Godstowe – Emily and Rachel and a son at The Beacon School. He is married to Lee.

Andy is a senior partner in PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the international accounting and financial services organisation. He is based in London and works with a number of major multinational clients.

As Chairman of the school council, Andy brings to bear experience gained from advising on the financial affairs of many different organisations, from small charities and pension funds to some of the UK’s largest corporates.

When not acting as a taxi driver for his three children, Andy enjoys golf, coaching his son’s football team and cycling.

If you would like to contact the Chairman, please write to Mr Kemp at the Godstowe School address.

Janet Brent

Janet Brent has been on the School Council since 2000 following three years as Chairman of The Friends of Godstowe and is currently Deputy Chairman of Council and Chairman of the General Purposes Committee. Janet has had two daughters at Godstowe, both of whom were initially day girls and subsequently full boarders until the age of 13.

Professionally, Janet qualified in medicine at The Royal Free Hospital, London, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is currently a company medical adviser. Her husband is a chartered accountant and was, until recently, Chairman of an international manufacturing company. She also has a son in business.

Janet is particularly aware of the pressures and responsibilities that arise within a school community as she comes from a family with a strong educational background: her father was Headmaster of a 1,500-pupil school in which her mother also taught.

Clare Blampied

Clare Blampied joined the School Council at the beginning of 2006. She has a daughter, Hettie, at the school in Year 5 and a son, Charlie, at Davenies in Beaconsfield.

A ‘foodie’ from a very early age, Clare pursued her interest through university and began importing food from Italy.  She was founding Director of the UK subsidiary of Sacla’, the pesto and pasta sauces brand leader, in 1991 and has been working on converting the British public ever since. Her greatest triumph is that both her children love pesto – and so, too, do most of the girls at Godstowe!

Tom Bunbury

Tom Bunbury joined the School Council in November 2008. He has been Headmaster of Papplewick School in Ascot since January 2004, a prep school for boys aged 7-13 which a number of Godstowe brothers attend. Prior to his teaching career, Tom was a solicitor in London working in criminal law.

Tom is married to Sallie and they have four children, Harry, Mollie, Lily and Archie aged 6, 4, 3, and 2. Fatherhood and headmastership have restricted the time available for Tom’s former interests of tennis, golf, theatre and travel but he still harbours hopes of returning to them one day!

Ann Canham

Ann Canham is a former parent whose two daughters were at Godstowe between 1991 and 1998. Ann has been on the School Council since 1996 and serves on the General Purposes Committee.

Ann retired from BP at the end of 2005 where she held several sales and marketing roles before becoming Vice President of Human Resources. She is now pursuing a varied work lifestyle doing things that she enjoys and feels passionate about with an overall aim of providing stimulation, challenge and fun. She has recently been appointed to a Lord Chancellor’s sub-committee assessing suitability of candidates for the magistracy.

Jo Davis

Jo has been a member of the School Council since 2006. She grew up locally and attended Dr Challoners High School in Amersham before studying Law. She is currently a Partner and Head of the Employment Department at BP Collins in Gerrards Cross.

Jo is married with three young children.

John Gardner

John Gardner is a current parent with two daughters at the Godstowe, Evie and Annalisa. He joined the School Council in 2006 and now serves on the General Purposes Committee.

Professionally, John has spent his working life in Human Resources and is currently the Managing Partner of NBI Consulting. He previously established and sold Talisman, an Executive Search company, to Penna Plc.

Anthea Hickman

Anthea was appointed to the School Council in 2005 and is a member of the General Purposes Committee. She brings with her a strong educational background having joined the teaching staff at Godstowe in 1985 as Head of Science. She subsequently became Director of Studies and later Academic Deputy Head of Godstowe.

Since her retirement in 2002, Anthea has become an Inspector for the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) for whom she has carried out more than 20 school inspections. In 2003 she joined the governing body of a local maintained primary school and enjoys preserving her educational ties with these two roles.

Anthea plays tennis and golf and enjoys spending time with her family and small grandchildren.

Emma McKendrick

Emma McKendrick has been a member of the School Council since 2000. She has been in teaching for twenty years and in her current post as Head of Downe House, a large girls’ boarding school, for ten years. She has a particularly strong interest in girls’ education and boarding and therefore feels a very strong sympathy with Godstowe’s aims and ethos.

As well as being on the Godstowe school Council, Emma is and has been a Governor of a range of other schools, chairs the Languages Committee of the ISEB (Common Entrance) Board and looks after her two boys. Her husband, Iain, is in Human Resources. When time and children permit, she enjoys the theatre, opera and travel!

Mike Murray

Mike Murray, 41, joined the School Council in February 2006 and now serves on the General Purposes Committee. He has two daughters: Anna in Year 3 and Charlotte, who left Godstowe in 2007 for Wellington.

Mike is Managing Director/Co-founder of cranley.com, a business he set up to bring independent, impartial information on hotels to business and leisure travellers. Prior to setting up Cranley he was Chief Operating Officer of a major division of Barclays Bank.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys playing golf and watching most sports.

Michael Tebbot

Michael was elected the inaugural Chairman of the Friends of Godstowe and served on the Fundraising Committee for the new £1m Music School, completed in 1999. He was Chairman of Council from 2002 until his retirement in 2007.

Michael is married to Merelina and has four children, all of whom attended Godstowe at one stage. The youngest, Ruth, left in July 1999.

Professionally, Michael is Director of Garrett McKee Tebbot and Wells Architects based High Wycombe.
