Snippets Volume 3 Issue 28

So here we have it – the final Snippet for 2008/2009. It seems just yesterday that you received the very first Snippet of the year and so much has happened during an eventful, happy and successful 11 months. You will have heard more today if you were able to join us for the festivities and I hope very much that the girls enjoyed Prize Giving, the Leavers’ Service and the inevitable tearful tea afterwards as the leavers compose themselves for the very last time at Godstowe. I have enjoyed keeping in touch with you every week and would like to wish you all a very enjoyable, restful (if possible) summer holiday and look forward to welcoming most of you back soon after bank holiday Monday in September. My very best wishes to all of our leavers and, if this also happens to be the last of your children leaving Godstowe, we wish you, as parents, every success and happiness in the future too. Do keep in touch.

I have been relegated today. I have handed over the reins to a very able Headmistress – Anne-Marie Pepera, and her deputy – Nozomi Shirakawa. This then, is their Snippets:

As I write, Sports Day is upon us. I hope very much that you enjoyed the events and I can certainly report that the girls were looking forward to representing their houses with gusto. As regards athletics, we have recently enjoyed enormous and outstanding successes which I will detail further for you next week. Suffice it to say, we are talking gold, silver and bronze medals, records, area records and a number of girls selected for the IAPS National Finals in Birmingham. You will have seen some of this talent during the course of Friday morning.

A very brief ‘Snippet’ this week, as I am about to run to Lodge Sports day. It looks as though it is actually going to take place on its scheduled date this year!

What a week it has been. The whooping and screaming on Thursday afternoon could only mean one thing – the IVs’ exams are over and post CE activities have begun. So far they have enjoyed a stress-busting workout and listened to a talk by author and presenter Jo Gambi. However, the highlight of the Post CE calendar is always the Celebratory Dinner, which took place at Godstowe last night. It never fails to amaze me that 45 school girls can become 45 lovely young ladies in less than an hour. After photos galore and a delicious supper, the young ladies became school girls once again as they kicked off their shoes for dancing and party games. Mrs Jordan deserves my thanks, as does Mrs B-P for once again devising a diverse and exciting Post CE Activity Programme. The weather is one thing she couldn’t organise however, which is a shame as the girls are out for a long walk today at Beacon Bottom!

I felt very proud of our girls who represented Godstowe in a multi-school musical production of Noah that was performed in All Saints Church as part of Wycombe Arts Festival. The church was packed like I’ve never seen it before and all the children involved helped create a very enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment. Many thanks to all of them for giving up a lot of their own time to take part and also to the staff from all the schools who helped prepare them. You may have enjoyed a few extracts in this afternoon’s concert.

What a treat. The Art Exhibition and Fashion Show combined dazzled everyone on Friday and Saturday last week. The quality of the work was quite simply outstanding and how good it was to see every child represented in one form or another. The outfits and accessories modelled by our senior girls gave rise once more to yet another impressive dimension emanating from the art and design departments. I know it’s easy for me to say, but I really genuinely believe that the quality and range of work witnessed is something you would probably not experience at any other prep school. Well done to all of the girls and to Mrs Sloggett, Mrs Goss and Mrs Zuberi.

Another short week bites the dust, but I am really looking forward to this evening’s art exhibition (6.30pm) and Fashion Show (7.30pm). An enormous amount of work has gone into the preparation of this outstanding event and I would urge as many of you as possible, please, to come and visit either tonight or tomorrow during Open Morning. Everybody’s work is on display, including some hugely talented parents’ pieces. Never mind the Tate Gallery or even the Royal Academcy – spend time at the now famous Godstowe Art Exhibition and Fashion Show. You are very welcome to bring friends with you and if you can encourage anybody to visit the school tomorrow, so much the better. Thanks as always for your support, and congratulations to all the exhibitors.

Bank Holiday weekend and the sun may shine! Indeed, the long range forecast recently announced appears to suggest the summer might be good. However, bearing in mind how accurate the forecast is for the next 24 hours, I wouldn’t necessarily hold your breath.

It really is the summer term but for how long? I have heard many stories of terrific Easter holiday escapades and, as usual, many of the girls have returned with evidence of the climate in which they enjoyed their break. Even my few days in France were accompanied by various visits by the big yellow thing in the sky.
