Snippets Volume 3 Issue 11

My thanks in advance to everyone associated with the preparations for tomorrow’s Christmas fair, which I know is going to be a fun occasion packed with excitement, particularly as we have enlisted the services of the one and only genuine and real Father Christmas. I do hope you will be able to spend time with us during the afternoon and that you will take part in all of the variety of activities. You may even get some of your Christmas shopping done and, this year for the first time, we are opening the dining room for refreshments throughout the afternoon. There will also be stalls in the Recital Hall and, all in all, the event will be more spectacular than ever. Whatever else you have planned, cancel it, and we’ll see you there!

Phew. A busy week! For the moment, all I am at liberty to say is that it has been an extremely successful week in almost every respect. Thank you very much for your help and support and I must pay particular tribute to the staff who have been exemplary throughout the process of inspection and the girls who were complimented at every single turn by all of the inspectors. Well done and thank you.

What an extraordinary number of weird and wonderful hairstyles arrived on Thursday! Some looked as if they had taken hours, others looked as if there had been a convenient hedge to be dragged through backwards, but I was just jealous. Mind you, having said that, I did procure a black curly wig, which caused a certain amount of consternation at lunchtime. It reminded me of when I was a little boy! Even some parents took part, or at least I think they did... All proceeds towards Pudsey. Thank you!

I find myself writing again after yet another seven days has flown by. I hope you will have all enjoyed (or if you are reading this before 6.30pm, will be about to enjoy) the Middle Division’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There is no doubting that great fun has been had throughout the build up and I would like to thank the girls and all the staff associated with this terrific production for all their efforts and enthusiasm. Well done.

I hope very much you enjoyed your half term break and we are already back into full swing. Please keep an eye out for news relating to forthcoming events, including the Christmas Fair which if you can believe it, is not too far away.

What about that snow? That caught us all by surprise. Let’s hope that’s the end of it for this year.

Half term is upon us and you. I hope you’re looking forward to something thrilling over the next week and I should inform you that all of your children thoroughly deserve their break after a very hard-working, productive and successful first half of term.

Many congratulations to anyone and everyone who has taken part in a whole range of activities, events and pastimes whilst representing Godstowe and judging by what the staff have told me they would appear to have represented themselves with gusto and enthusiasm in the classroom too.

Firstly, many thanks indeed to Jennifer Thomas and her team of FOG cohorts who rallied around valiantly before, during and after the brilliant Mexican Fiesta on Saturday, enjoyed by about 120 people. That had been preceded by a great fun trip to Coral Reef swimming pool in Bracknell where the boarders splashed about and had supper.

There was an unexpected break in the programme over the weekend as, unfortunately, the Berkhamsted lacrosse tournament had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. And how right they were! Didn’t it tip down?

Busy, busy, busy! We’ve had another busy week and have a busy weekend ahead. I must be brief as I’m about to take a batch of IV Form girls to Wycombe Abbey for their entrance interviews. Tomorrow I will take them all back again for a taster day and, in the afternoon, I’m off to Coral Reef in Bracknell with the boarders. I’m told this is a fabulous swimming pool with chutes and slides, a pirate ship and even a giant cloud that actually rains. I shall be enjoying myself vicariously from the poolside. I’m very much looking forward to seeing many of you at FOG’s Mexican Fiesta on Saturday night – no doubt it will be a night to remember. And finally, on Sunday, I shall be at Berkhamsted Collegiate School with our U12 and U13 Lacrosse squads for a tournament involving the local schools. I’ll let you know how it all goes!

How nice to see the big yellow thing in the sky and the forecast for the weekend is hopeful!

Good to see everyone fully involved in the extra-curricular programme and fixtures, which are now up and running. We arrive at exeat weekend having skipped through the first three and a half weeks with enthusiasm and verve in abundance. Congratulations to all the girls (and Lodge and Nursery boys) who have started the year so well.

We seem to be in full swing – it appears I only just finished last week’s Snippets. As you will have gathered, we have been very busy this week with various visitations from the Independent Schools Inspectorate. You will be pleased to know that things went very well indeed and I thank you all for your support.

I hope some of you have had a chance to sneak a look at the swimming pool, which is in regular use once more. There are one or two minor cosmetic finishings, but otherwise we are delighted with a vastly improved facility.

Dear parents. We are still waiting for summer. I had hoped on 8 July that we would be moving into a spectacularly hot and sunny holiday, but how wrong I was. Fortunately, the sun did appear in France for a while and I particularly delighted in ringing the school from time to time to find it was pouring with rain in High Wycombe.

Welcome back. I hope you have all read my early letter which was ParentMailed this week, together with the request from ISI that you assist by filling out their brief questionnaire in relation to our full inspection due this term. Please do what you can to help us so that we can enjoy the most successful inspection possible.
