Play Time at Godstowe

The contribution of curricular and extra-curricular provision for pupils is excellent

ISI Report 2012

Play time at Godstowe is very important.

It doesn’t matter how old children are, they always love to play, to charge about, to let off steam, to meet and make friends, to learn as they play and sometimes, simply enjoy the chance to be themselves. And why not?

At Godstowe, we care greatly that children are able to enjoy playtime in wonderful, rambling surroundings with customised challenges and apparatus, bags of space and at Lodge, they can invade Godstowe Castle.

The girls in the main school can use the Astroturf play area, the climbing frames and adventure playground, the tennis courts, lawns and other areas of our extensive grounds. They have a long break at lunch time when they can explore, gossip, sit and read, cartwheel , sing and dance, debate, play chess, act out their own improvisations, perform for each other or just do nothing.

Although we are very aware of health and safety, as you would expect, we do still allow girls to eat dirt from time to time!

Playtime is a valuable opportunity for personal development and we do what we can to encourage fun and laughter outside whenever possible.
